چکیده

Gold nanoparticles (*40 nm in diameter) were encapsulated by a hydrogel overlayer generated by the free radical polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylic acid (NIPAM-co-AA), which was promoted by a specifically designed radical initiator covalently anchored to the surface of the gold core. The size and morphology of the shell/core nanoparticles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. In addition, the optical properties of the nanoparticles were characterized by UV–Visible spectroscopy. Separately, the particle size was evaluated as a function of temperature and pH using dynamic light scattering. The shell/core hydrogel nanoparticles undergo reversible volume changes in water at a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of *34 C as well as at pH values between 3 and 4. The unique composition and properties of these shell/core hydrogel nanoparticles make them attractive for use as nanoscale drug-delivery vehicles.

Thermo-Responsive Hydrogel-Coated Gold Nanoshells for In Vivo Drug Delivery

This paper describes the preparation and characterization of a new type of composite nanoparticle, where the structure consists of a nontoxic hydrogel polymer network that encapsulates a gold shell/silica core. These composite nanoparticles are being developed as photothermally responsive drug-delivery vehicles that undergo structural changes slightly above physiological temperature. A unique p...

Discrete thermally responsive hydrogel-coated gold nanoparticles for use as drug-delivery vehicles

This report describes the development of optically responsive gold nanoparticles ( 60 nm in diameter) coated with a thermally responsive biocompatible hydrogel overlayer (20–90 nm thick). The hydrogel consists of a mixture of N-isoproprylacrylamide and acrylic acid; this copolymer can be tailored to exhibit a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) slightly above physiological temperature. W...

Ultrathin, freestanding, stimuli-responsive, porous membranes from polymer hydrogel-brushes.

The fabrication of freestanding, sub-100 nm-thick, pH-responsive hydrogel membranes with controlled nano-morphology, based on modified poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) is presented. Polymer hydrogel-brush films were first synthesized by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) and subsequently detached from silicon substrates by UV-induced photo-cleavage of a spec...

Poly (methacrylic acid-co-acrylic acid)-grafted polyvinylpyrrolidone coated Magnetic nanoparticles as a pH-responsive magnetic Nano-carrier for controlled delivery of antibiotics

Objective(s): Pharmaceutical industries are leading to improved medications that can target diseases more effectively and precisely. Researchers have intended to reformulate drugs so that they may be more safely used in human body. The more targeted a drug is, the lower its chance of triggering drug resistance, a cautionary concern surrounding the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics. The aim of t...

LSPR Coupling and Distribution of Interparticle Distances between Nanoparticles in Hydrogel on Optical Fiber End Face

We report on a new localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR)-based optical fiber (OF) architecture with a potential in sensor applications. The LSPR-OF system is fabricated by immobilizing gold nanoparticles (GNPs) in a hydrogel droplet polymerized on the fiber end face. This design has several advantages over earlier designs. It dramatically increase the number nanoparticles (NP) available fo...
